What is a deep link?
A deep link points to a specific place inside a mobile app, like one video, one profile or one product page. A normal web link opens a browser tab. A deep link opens the app itself, using a custom URI scheme such as vnd.youtube:// or spotify:, or an Android intent that targets the app's package.
Why Meta and TikTok ads need them
Facebook, Instagram and TikTok open outbound links in an embedded browser. Visitors are logged out there, so they can't subscribe, follow, buy or save without signing in again. Routing to the native app skips that wall and keeps people signed in, which usually means more completed actions per click.
